| | Born in Chicago, IL on Aug. 17, 1870. Cole studied at the University of London (England) and earned a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Michigan. After marrying painter Blanche Dougan in 1894, he was president of the Consolidated Water Company in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles in 1901. A self-taught artist, he shared a studio with his wife in the Blanchard Bldg and exhibited locally through 1913. As well as an artist, he was also an investment broker in oil and agricultural lands and an art collector.
