William W Campbell was born in Massachusetts in 1920 though his parents moved to Chicago when he was just six years old. His talent for painting was noticed in the first grade when his teachers sent him to teach the eighth graders how it should be done. He earned a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago where he attended Saturday classes.
While in high school Bill Campbell took up the cornet. In the school band he played along with Steve Allen, who would later become a famous enterta (showing 500 of 1383 characters). |
