|  William W Campbell was born in Massachusetts in 1920 though his parents moved to Chicago when he was just six years old. His talent for painting was noticed in the first grade when his teachers sent him to teach the eighth graders how it should be done. He earned a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago where he attended Saturday classes.
While in high school Bill Campbell took up the cornet. In the school band he played along with Steve Allen, who would later become a famous entertainer and host of the "Tonight Show" as well as Mel Torme, the famous singer known as "The Velvet Fog."
After high school he decided to go back to art and become a cartoonist. He worked for a variety of companies throughout Chicago drawing and illustrating. During this time he also played cornet with the 80-piece University of Chicago Symphonic Band.
In 1943 he entered the Army. During a break from training in Texas he returned to Chicago to marry. He eventually was sent to Italy where he served throughout War World II.
After the War he signed on with Hawk Model Company on a contract basis. It was with Hawk that he created the "Weird Oh" line of models that he is most well known for as well as airplanes, trains and other various subjects.
Now in retirement, Bill continues to paint daily.
