Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Part of an upper-class horse-racing genre painting tradition, Alfred De Prades is linked in style and subject matter to Francis Barlow (c1626-1704)"considered to be the father of British sporting art. . ." Involved for painters such as De Prades was meticulous study of both equine and human anatomy because many clients were horse owners who wanted both themselves and their prize horse to seem regal and impressive. Many of these paintings were made into racing prints, but that market (showing 500 of 914 characters). |
