Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| | Painter, illustrator, etcher, sculptor. Born in Tioga, PA on March 24, 1874. Educated in the public schools of Tioga, Dewey then studied at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Art and with Wm M. Chase in NYC. During his career he worked as a newspaper cartoonist, wrote several novels, and contributed illustrations to Life, Judge, Harpers, and Century magazines. In 1926 Dewey settled in Sierra Madre, CA where he founded the Old Globe Art School (1936) and the Sierra Madre Arts Guild. He designed many of the floats for the Pasadena Rose Tournament and, as a hobby, modeled in clay. Dewey died in Sierra Madre on July 14, 1958. Exh: Artists Fiesta (LA), 1931.
