Alice Emily Donkin (fl. c.1871-1909)
A British figure and genre painter, she was the daughter of William Fishburn Donkin, Savilian Professor of Astronomy at Oxford University.
The Donkins were friends of the Dodgsons at Oxford and on Lewis Carroll websites there are photographs of her taken by Lewis Carroll. Her first cousin, Alice Jane Donkin, (also photographed) married Charles Dodgson's brother Wilfred L Dodgson.
She exhibited at numerous important leading London galleries including the Dudley Gallery, London Salon, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Society of Women Artists, Royal Academy and others.
