| Born in Bordeaux, France in 1809. At age 15 Amelia wed M. H. DeYoung, a Baltimore merchant. A widow, she moved to San Francisco in 1854 with her two young sons, Charles and Michael. (The boys later established the San Francisco Chronicle and DeYoung Museum.) She died in San Francisco at her home at 317 Eddy on May 19, 1881.
