Biography from AskART:
The following is from Sandra Harris, Research Assistant to Edan Hughes: DeYOUNG, Amelia (1809-1881). Artist. Born in France in 1809, Amelia DeYoung arrived in San Francisco in 1854. She was the mother of Michael H. DeYoung, founder of the San Francisco Chronicle and the DeYoung Museum. She died in San Francisco on May 19, 1881. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1858. Census; SF Alta, 5-20-1881
