This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following, submitted October 2005, is from the artist.
Art Donovan is considered to be "one of the most influencial artists
working with light in the past 20 years." (Linda Longo, Editor in
Chief, Home Lighting Art, August,2001.)
Art Donovan has lived in New York and been a professional, full-time
artist and designer since 1976. His disciplines include
sculpture, painting, photography and art-furniture design, and among
his mediums are hardwood, spun filament fiberglass, steel, bronze and
acrylic.
In
1980, his interest in three-dimensional work occurred when he became
the senior designer and head illustrator for Donald Deskey Associates,
New York City. (Deskey was the designer of Radio City Music Hall
in New York, and through long talks about the Golden Age of American
Deco, Donovan absorbed the philosophies and practice of this style of
expression directly from Deskey, one of the great acknowledged American
Masters of this style of art).
M.G. Lord in Preservation Magazine say's that "Donovan's diverse
resume in the visual arts have prepared him for almost any challenge.
He has mastered the art of visualizing concepts, that is, to mesh Idea
and Word with Visual Imagery."
Donovan specializes in three dimensional, illuminated Art and lives in
Southampton New York with his wife and design, partner, Leslie Tarbell
Donovan.
Exhibition venues include the Artists Alliance of East Hampton, of which he is also a member.
