Arthur Drummond (1871 – 1951)

A popular late 19th and early 20th-century painter, Arthur Drummond was born in Bristol, England. He received his artistic training from Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (see AskART) in London, England, and from Benjamin Constant (see AskART) and Jean Paul Laurens (see AskART) in Paris, France. Drummond came from an artistic family; his father John Drummond and at least one sibling Norah Drummond-Davies (see AskART) were painters.

Arthur Drummond’s subjects included portraits, children, nudes, equestrian scenes, sporting activities, history, and genre*. Many of his works were set in ancient Greece, Egypt and Rome. His styles were Realism*, Neo-Classicism* and Orientalism*.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts* five times (1890, 1893, 1896, 1899 and 1901). He also exhibited with the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; Manchester City Art Gallery; and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters*.
