This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A painter, printer and illustrator, Carson Donnell was from Donnellson, Illinois, the son of Thomas Eston and Janie Smith Donnell.  He attended Washington University School of Fine Arts from 1906 to 1912, and for two years was the medical illustrator at the St. Louis University Collge of Physicians and Surgeons.

He returned to the area of Donnellson, where he continued to develop his skills in his studio in an old barn next to his home, which was south of Donnellson.  The barn had been built in 1840 by his grandfather, Carson Donnell for whom the town was named.

In addition to his landscapes in oil, he completed many block prints of rural scenes which he executed in brown ink on paper.

His art works were shown in galleries in St. Louis, Missouri, and Terre Haute, Indiana.

Information submitted as a bulletin by: Barbara Krummel, who wrote of the artist:

"During the Depression he traded paintings for groceries to my Grandfather who ran the local grocery and drug store."
