This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born the third of seven children, Mr. Diletto grew up in a large family of meager means. His father died during the influenza epidemic of 1918, and he and two brothers were sent to live in a Catholic orphanage for three years. He was reunited with his mother when he was 10.

By then, Mr. Diletto had found his love for art and was trying to take advantage of any instruction he could find.

Over the years he managed to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts*, the old Philadelphia College of Art and the Fleisher Art Memorial. He also studied portrait painting under the late Robert Susan.

In the early years, Mr. Diletto supplemented his income by working on interior-decorating projects in Catholic churches, including St. Mary of the Eternal in North Philadelphia.
Teaching also helped supplement Mr. Diletto's income as an artist, and it quickly became one of the pursuits he enjoyed most.

Throughout his life, Mr. Diletto also found pleasure in classical music. A baritone, he sang in leading roles for 15 years with the Philadelphia Operatic Society, a semiprofessional group.

He was a past president of the Da Vinci Art Alliance, and an active member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club*, the Philadelphia Art Alliance and the North Shore Art Assocation* in Gloucester, Mass.

He is best known for western art, portraiture, still lifes, landscapes and seascapes.
