This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From Pennsylvania, Charles Dana studied at the Pennsylvania Academy with Thomas Eakins and at the Royal Academies in Dresden and Munich and in Paris with Evariste Luminais.

He was a trustee of the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and a teacher at the University of Pennsylvania. He was also the subject of an Eakins portrait and was a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club from 1867 until his death in 1914.
