Chaplain of the Spanish ship, San Carlos, Cristobal Diaz painted a view of the Mission San Carlos Borromeo at Monterey, California in the late 18th century. The Society of California Pioneers held this painting in its collection and it was later destroyed in the San Francisco fire of 1906.
