This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| From Gardiner, Montana, Dan Downing has lived at Yellowstone Park's "doorstep for nearly twenty years" and has "never tired of its beauty. . . . The Park's animals are a specialty for him, and his Buffalo painting attests to the subtle merging of animal and landscape into a unified aesthetic vision." (Hassrick)
Artist Statement: “Through working on ranches, as well as living and painting in the Yellowstone Park for the last twenty-two years, I have developed a great love for animals and landscapes of the west. I’ve studied under Reynold Brown, Wayne Wolfe, Luke Frasier, and my mother Betty Downing, also a fine artist. I have been blessed to live and paint in some amazing country and hope to share some of the beauty with others.”
Dan’s oils and acrylics on board combine master lighting techniques and highly skilled brush-work to give a dramatic impact to all his work. He currently lives in the Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone National Park with his wife. (Wyoming Gallery)
