This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Using primarily egg tempera, Downy Doxey-Marshall paints portraits of furniture and uses pattern to create unique perspective interior paintings. (Marshall) Of her work she says: "I paint portraits of furniture, successful portraits that capture the spirit and personality of the subject, and that speak of collective life experiences and the interaction between artist and sitter."
"Furnishings have anthropomorphic qualities. We invite these objects into our homes, use them and eventually discard them. Cracked surfaces and worn edges of forgotten furniture resonate with wisdom from years of watching us grow. Intimate interiors set the stage for metaphorical explorations. Instances of self evaluation intermingled with visual memories are rich with elements of the spaces that surround me and the places I wish to explore. I paint chairs conversing, wallpapers laughing, lamps telling secrets and sofa cradling."
