This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, E. George De Ville is known for his sand
paintings, which he, not a Native American, did with the same
methods as the Southwest Indians. One of his works titled Rainbow Bridge is inscribed: "Hand made: Employing sand, ground rock and minerals as the color medium."
His
subjects were western from New Mexico and Arizona, especially the Grand
Canyon. He also did portraits of old time Indians and white
settlers of those regions. He lived much of his life in Flagstaff,
Arizona and Gallup, New Mexico, and was living in St. Johns, Arizona
when he died.
