 Ed (Edwin) Perry Douglas (1935-)
Born in 1935, Ed Douglas began his fine arts training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he earned a BFA in 1963. He then attended the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied with Richard Diebenkorn and received a MFA. Until his retirement a few years ago, Douglas taught drawing and painting at the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine where he was also head of the art department. Douglas still maintains a residence in Maine, and spends his summers in Essex, New York.
Mr. Douglas has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout his career including: Greenhut Galleries in Portland, Maine; Joan Whitney Payson Gallery of Art at Westbrook College; Maine College of Art; Miami University; University of Cincinnati; and the University of Manitoba.
He has participated in group exhibitions at Greenhut Galleries; Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, Maine; The Blaine House in Augusta, Maine; and Frick Gallery in Belfast, Maine.
Mr. Douglas’ paintings are in several private collections in the United States, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, France and Greece.
Not only is Ed Douglas a visual artist, but he is also an equally talented musician. Douglas is a member of the Calderwood Consort, a trio that performs music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance using replicas of period instruments.
