| A painter and sculptor from 1976, Ed Dwight has been earlier an Air
Force Test Pilot, computer systems engineer, real estate developer and
building contractor. During his art career, he has completed over
80 public art commissions, most of them honoring individuals and
contributions of African Americans to American history. He lives
in Denver, Colorado.
Among his bronze sculptures are the "Black Frontier Spirit Series",
commissioned by the National Park Service in St. Louis. In
preparation, he did much study of African culture. Another
sculpture series was "Jazz: An American Art Form", which is 70 pieces
devoted to the history of jazz music from its African roots. He
also has numerous portrait sculptures of noted black Americans
including Hank Arron, baseball player, at the Atlanta Braves Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the City Park of Denver; and Mr. Frederic Douglas
in The Douglas Museum in Anacostia, Maryland. For the Mall in
Washington DC, he is doing a memorial of 63 figures for the
Constitution Gardens.
