Elena Dorothy Doennecke
1910 -
Elena Dorothy Doennecke was a portrait painter, teacher, and
lithographer born in Davenport, IA in 1910. She studied at the
Art Institute of Chicago; with Louis Ritman (1889-1963) who accepted a
position of professor of painting at the Art Institute of Chicago in
1930; and in Paris and Rome for one year.
Doennecke exhibited her work at the Iowa Art Salon in 1934; the Art
Institute of Chicago in 1935; the All Iowa Exhibit, Carson Pirie Scott
in 1937; the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1938; and the Iowa
Art Solon in 1938 where she won an honorable mention. One of her
oils from circa 1935 is titled Scott Street, Davenport, IA.
In addition to her professional artist career, Doennecke was a teacher
at the Davenport High School and an art instructor at the Municipal Art
Gallery in Davenport, IA.
