Biography from AskART:
The following, submitted April 2005, is from Guy D Sbar, MD, whose source is Andy De Cusati, nephew of the artist.

Emiddio De Cusati was born in Amalfi, Italy. The family is unsure of his birth year. He came to the United States in 1905 and studied with Eugene Francis Savage at Yale School of Art and received his certificate in 1930. He was on the staff of the Yale School of Art from 1934 until 1964.

The artist did landscapes, portraits and scenes from operas. In fact he did a painting of Giovanni Martinelli as Othello, which hangs in the Metropolitan Opera House. He also did portraits of Mario Lanza and Luciano Pavarotti from the opera "Eliseo d'Amore".

Besides being a painter, De Cusati also did some photography work for Yale University and was a member of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club. As for family history he had two sons: Frank who died in 1999 and Joseph who was killed in World War II in March, 1945 as a member of the 8th Air Force.

The artist died in 1984.
