This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1819. Dresel was an architect in Wiesbaden before joining the Gold Rush to California in 1849. After a few months in the gold fields, he settled in San Francisco where he offered his services as an architect. In 1853 he and Charles Conrad Kuchel established a successful lithography business in San Francisco. The firm produced lithographs from Dresel’s sketches of northern California and Oregon as well as those by other artists. In 1858 he bought land in Sonoma and became one of California's pioneer vineyardists. He died in San Francisco in July 1869. In: State Museum Resource Center (Sacramento); Amon Carter Museum (Ft Worth, TX).
