| | Born in Alta, IA on March 18, 1896. Esther Boles studied art in high school and at Buena Vista College in her native state. Wilbur Dean, a farmer near the college, caught her eye and she became his wife. In 1936 the Deans moved to southern California and in 1942 settled in Atascadero. Mrs. Dean was active in the art world there and continued to paint at her studio-home until her death on Oct. 14, 1988. Her diverse subjects include landscapes, coastals, floral still lifes, and old barns. Her works won prizes in local exhibitions.
