This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Balsall Heath, England on July 30, 1848. Georgiana L'Aubinere
was the daughter of English watercolorist John Steeple. After
years of art study in England, she took up residence in Paris where she
met artist Constant de L'Aubiniére. After their marriage in 1874,
they toured extensively in France and England before coming to the U.S.
in 1882.
For seven years they painted and exhibited from coast to coast.
During 1885-86, the couple were in San Francisco and advertised as
portrait and landscape painters. The L'Aubiniéres then moved to
Canada. There she and her husband are said to have "taken Victoria by
storm" and were commissioned by the government to paint a series of 14
oils for presentation to Queen Victoria.
Upon returning to England, Mrs. L'Aubiniére continued to exhibit at the
Royal Academy. In 1900 she settled on the coast at Cornwall and
lived there until her death on Feb. 13, 1930. Her works are rare.
