| The following, submitted April 2005, is from Chris Sobotowski of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
"I have a Benedictis painting, which I had bought from an antiques dealer who had a large number of paintings from the Benedictis estate. With the painting, the dealer provided me with some biographical information, which I will quote verbatim below. The painting is a 21" x 27 1/4' pastel portrait of a semi-nude woman.
Giosue De Benedictis Nov. 18 1874-Dec 31, 1958
Artist and Educator born in Vittorito, Italy. Studied at the School of Arts and Crafts, L'aquila, Italy. 1890 Diploma at Ovid Technical School, Sulmano, Italy. Acadamia di Belle Arti under Teofilo Patini, Naples, Italy.
Immigrated to the U.S. in 1907, settling in Everett, Mass and opened the De Benedictis School of Art on Boyleston St., Boston in 1908 where he taught for 50 years.
One man show at the Society of Independent Artists, N.Y.C. 1924 Mass. State Federation of Womens Clubs, Boston. Anderson Galleries, N.Y.C. 1925 Grace Hornel Gallery, Boston, 1929. Egyptian Theatre, Brighton, Mass, 1930 Trinity Gallery, Boston, 1937 Attleboro Museum, 1953. Boston Art Club, 1st Prize, 1925.
