A Navajo Indian illustrator of children's books and muralist, Hoke Denetsosie was born on the Reservation near Cameron, Arizona and lived much of his life in Tuba City. He graduated from the Indian School in Phoenix and credited the school Director, Lloyd New, as his major influence. He illustrated books about Navajo children with writer Ann Nolan Clark including a "Little Herder" series.
