A contemporary German artist born in Czechoslovakia, Jiri George
Dokoupil lives and works in his native country as well as Spain,
Germany and occasionally New York City. He is known for his
abstract artwork, many of them ink drawings and etchings, some for
illustrations. Some of his pieces are large scale abstract
expressionist paintings and often arranged in groupings to challenge
viewers emotionally and/or politcally and socially, they can range from
ugly to beautiful---depending upon one's perspective.
He was born in Bruntal (Krnov), which was formerly Czechoslovakia, but
in 1968, he fled to Germany when the Soviet army invaded his
country.
Exhibition venues in addition to the above mentioned countries include Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy.
