John Doctoroff (1893-1970)
Born July 19, 1893 in New York City, he studied at the Cooper Union in New York and the Chicago Art Institute. He lived in Dallas, Texas for a number of years before coming to Chicago in 1924 after winning a nation-wide contest for portraits of the late Calvin Coolidge and Charles G. Dawes, for the Republican National Committee.
In 1928 he was commissioned to make the official portraits of Ex-President Hoover and Vice-President Curti (showing 500 of 1238 characters). |
