| | Known primarily for his experimental writing of the 1920s including his trilogy "USA," he was also a painter of more than 600 works. Many of the paintings he did when he was in the trenches in Italy during World War I when he was a Red Cross ambulance driver. He exhibited with Picasso and Matisse, whose reputations for painting obviously far exceeded his own. Later he painted sets for the Ballet Russes with Leger and Goncharova. In Fall, 1998, an exhibition of about 600 of Dos Passos' paintings were exhibited at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City. |
