This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| John Dean was prolific in his works. He and Marlin Perkins were known friends and took “nature conserving” expeditions together. John was primarily an oil painter of the outdoors, the animals seen in those pictures are incredibly realistic. He carved with perfection, cast an early mold-type clay and one of his early business ventures was selling the animal heads created from it after they were placed in hand made book-ends. He also worked in pastels, pencil, pen and ink and water color.
Information provided by Charlotte Santa, whose grandmother was married to the artist for the last years of his life. He had been spending winters at her boarding house. |
