John Silk Deckard was born in Erie in 1940, and studied locally with renowned painter and teacher Joseph Plavcan. He won a National Scholastic scholarship to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and later attended Edinboro State College and Carnegie-Mellon University. Since the mid-sixties, his works have been exhibited in galleries across America and in Europe. He died in Erie on June 7, 1994 at the age of 55. In 1965 Deckard was selected by the Associated Americ (showing 500 of 1975 characters). |
