| Born in New Wilmington, PA on Nov. 21, 1870. Raised in Nebraska, Doty learned to draw from a teacher who used Spencerian script. He moved west in 1891 and lived in Portland for three years where he was first exposed to art. Moving to California in 1894, he settled in the small town of Sisson (now Mount Shasta). While working for a lumber company, he began painting landscapes without the benefit of instruction. Doty admired the work of artists Wm Keith and Wm Adam, but was most influenced by (showing 500 of 1075 characters). |
