1928 Born in Montevideo, Uruguay
1944 Studied drawing and painting at “Taller Torres Garcia”
1946 First show of drawings together with the Hungarian sculptor Anthony Khun, Sao Paolo, Brazil
1949 Traveled to Argentina as set designer for the company of Modern Dances of Miryan Wislow
Traveled to Valparaiso and Santiago de Chile.
Return to Buenos Aires as illustrator for the newspaper El Laborista and designed covers for the magazine El Hogar
1951-56 Traveled through provinces of Argentina and Alta Gracia, Cordoba, teaching drawing to children at the public library
1957 Perspective drawing and geometry professor at the fine arts school Tomas Cabrera in Salta, Argentina
1959 Returned to Montevideo, Uruguay to exhibit in “Amigos Del Arte”
Traveled to United States with Carlos Paez to paint a mural at the PanAmerican Union building in Washington, D.C.
1960 First show in the United States at Georgetown University
First prize in the Nacional Salon in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Represented Uruguay in the International Exhibition for the Inauguration of the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires
1960 Traveled and showed work throughout the United States

Jorge Dumas, Uruguayan (1928 - 1985 )

Jorge Dumas was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1928. He first came to the United States in 1960 to collaborate with Carlos Paez in the design and execution of the mural for the Pan American Union Building in Washington, D.C.

Dumas' works have been exhibited throughout the United States and South America. He received first prize in the National Salon of Buenos Aires. His paintings were chosen to represent Uruguay at the show that opened the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires. Dumas has taught painting and drawing at the Fine Arts Academy in Salta, Argentina.
