Known for lush, large-scale landscapes in a modernist romantic style, Joseph DiGiorgio was born in Brooklyn and studied art at Cooper Union and with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Many of his paintings were in a series related to a specific topics such as the Grand Canyon and the Hudson River. In these works, he combined feelings for the grandeur, such as those expressed by 19th-century romantic painters, with a semi-abstract style and use of pure color.
