| An American comic artist, Kim Deitch has been part of the Underground Comics (Comix) movement, which is self-published comic books that began appearing in the 1960s. The movement began in San Francisco and spread to other cities including New York, Chicago and Austin, Texas. Underground Comics focus on counterculture subjects such as drug-altered states of mind, rebellion against prevalent sexual mores and, in general, rebellion against the 'establishment'.
