| Painter. Born in Switzer, KY on Oct. 9, 1886. Raised in an artistic milieu, Luther was the son and pupil of painter Oscar DeJoiner. Moving to California with his family in 1894, he studied art at the Mark Hopkins Institute in San Francisco and later with Arthur Hill Gilbert in Monterey. Most of his years in California were as a resident of Santa Cruz where he was highly regarded as a painter and a naturalist. During WWI he worked at Mare Island in the camouflage department. He traveled widely in (showing 500 of 895 characters). |
