This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted July 2005, is from G. Wilkerson, fine-art professional.

Lindsay Dawson is primarily known for his colorful impressionistic paintings of women and children in beach and garden settings, and romantic bygone era scenes. Dawson's paintings have a unique style (at times almost naïve) that tend to have a simple innocence that transports the viewer into another world, often that of childhood memories.

Dawson was born in 1959 in Palo Alto, California and raised in Portola Valley, California. His interest in art started very early, and his talent and individuality eventually led him to Art Center College of Design.

At Art Center he fell under the spell of the great masters, but especially the Impressionists. Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Gustav Klimt, and Joaquin Sorrolla influenced Dawson, and made him aware of the need to push his work in a unique direction, one of mood and emotion. To accomplish this he realized that he could not conform to any literal representation of the subject, but must "feel" his way along in the painting process.

After Art Center, and being from a "practical" family, he went into commercial art, and became a well-known artist in the movie and animation industry, working for such clients as NBC, Universal Studios, 7-UP, and Filmation Studios. In 1985 he was invited to have a one-man exhibit of his work at the Walt Disney Gallery. The exhibit encouraged him to do more gallery paintings, and he began to phase out some of the commercial work.

By 1991 he felt his style was mature and developed enough to devote himself to painting full time.

After marrying in 1999, Dawson and his wife, Cathy, worked together to market his paintings.

Well over two decades after embarking on his artistic journey, Lindsay Dawson continues his quest for the "elusive charm of great paintings", pushing his paintings into new and exciting territory.
