This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The information below was submitted by Ruth Crnkovich, Fine Art Appraiser and Art Historian. She wrote: "I have located two brief bios on the artist Dimitroff. Below are excerpts, not necessarily the most profound critical analysis, but perhaps helpful in establishing his biography. Also note that his work is in the collection of the Brauer Museum of Art,Valparaiso, Indiana:

Louis Dimitroff was a Gary, Indiana artist for 37 years. Born in Blugaria, he came to Gary as a young child with a yearning to be involved in art. He took several art courses at the Chicago Art Institute and won his first prize in 1941. Not satisfied with painting still-life, landscapes and portraits, he tried his hand at cubists, impressionist and surrealist schools of painting. During this experimental period, he developed his form of over-painting—-the use of contrasting color painted over another. In 1953, he helped found the Gary Artist’s League with cosponsored an annual art show with the Gary Music and Art Society. Mr. Dimitroff taught classes at Gary’s YWCA and the Artist’s League in Miller. He passed away in 1977. ~ Mary Kuric-Curator

Louis Dimitroff was on of the most prolific artists of Indiana and the northern Indiana area. In his head were dozens of artistic variations, maybe hundreds. He was the product of his generations, that group of American artists torn between modernism and regional Midwest realists. He wanted to create art anew with every painting that he painted. ~ John Forwalter, Art Critic, Chicago Post Tribune
