Born in Virginia, Mary Dodge is know from her listing in the 1894 Paris Salon. She was a student in Paris of Carolus-Duran and was related somehow to artist William de Leftwich, possibly as his mother. His biography indicates that she, his mother, left her husband, William M Dodge in 1879 and brought her children to Europe, first to Munich in 1880 and Paris in 1881. She died in Italy in 1928.
