This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Marion Michener graduated from the University of California in Mechanical Arts and taught the subject at Lowell High School. She was a life long daughter of the Golden West but lived in a number of locations.  She lived in San Francisco, Linden, Whittier, and St. Helena, West Los Angeles and Roseville, where she died less than a year after the loss of her youngest son.

She painted impressionist landscapes and still lives and in 1928, she built a wonderful sailing model racing R Boat similar to the type still free sailed on Speckles Lake in Golden Gate Park San Francisco. It is built bread and butter style of California Redwood and carved inside and out.  Its streamlined surfaces are impressive with their traditional curves and sections, long overhangs, hollow bilges and deep cast lead keel.  Her son Pier (then 12) assisted and developed a lifelong interest in model boat building. While a student, also in mechanical arts, at UCLA he refinished the R boat and added specialized rigging and fittings.

The model as well as some of her paintings are in possession of the family.
