| Born in Clinton, IN on April 28, 1912. Smith settled in San Diego in 1928. She soon entered the Academy of Fine Arts and further studied in Los Angeles at the Art Center School. Upon graduation, she worked in San Diego for Associated Artists for several years, and from 1934-45 she was a fashion artist at Marston's. In 1937 she married artist Stan DeTreville and remained in San Diego.
