Born in Salisbury, North Carolina, Mary Elizabeth Nottingham was a gifted artist, teacher, and arts administrator who spent much of her career working alongside her husband, Southern regionalist painter Horace Day. She began painting as a child and was formally educated at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Upon graduation, she moved to New York to study at the Art Students League. There, she was instruc (showing 500 of 1350 characters).
