Born in Santa Ana, CA on April 29, 1903. Dickinson began his art studies at the Chouinard School and continued in NYC at the NAD under Hawthorne and at the Grand Central School under Costigan and Ennis. He also studied with Frank M. Fletcher at the Santa Barbara School of Fine Arts and taught there during 1928-30. He then taught life drawing at the Art Center School in Los Angeles for 21 years. He was also awarded residency at Louis C. Tiffany Foundation on Long Island. Dickinson died in La Jolla, CA on Feb. 7, 1978. Exh: Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1924-37; Grand Central Gallery (NYC), 1926 (1st prize); NAD, 1926; So. Calif. Artists, San Diego FA Gallery, 1927; Santa Barbara Art League, 1928-30; Calif. State Fair, 1929-40 (prizes); Pasadena Art Inst., 1929; LACMA, 1930 (solo); Artists Fiesta (LA), 1931; Hollywood Public Library, 1932; Oakland Art Gallery, 1937; Santa Cruz Art League, 1937, 1938; La Jolla Art Center, 1957, 1960; San Diego Co. Fair, 1964; Jones Gallery (La Jolla), 1968 (solo); San Diego Art Inst., 1975. Murals: Santa Barbara School of the Arts Theater; San Pedro (CA) High School; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, & Thomas Starr King High Schools (LA).

Ross Dickinson was born in Santa Ana in 1903. He studied in New York, at the Grand Central School and the National Academy of Design.

Upon his return to California, Dickinson continued his study at the Chouinard Institute, and the Santa Barbara School of Fine Arts. Dickinson was active in Southern California in the 1930's, painting murals in a number of public buildings during that time. Throughout his life, Dickinson contributed to the arts communities, serving as a teacher in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
