This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ruth P. De Jong (1891 - 1933)

Born in Mapleton, South Dakota, Ruth De Jong and her family later relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she attended Central High School. She later attended North Dakota Agricultural College (now known as North Dakota State University) and the St. Paul School of Fine Arts*. After marrying, De Jong became a student at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts* (1930-1932) and took courses in wood engraving* and still life painting.

She attended the 1933 session of the Stone City Art Colony*; artist records indicate her residency as Excelsior, Minnesota during 1933. For five years, De Jong served as the manager of the West Point Artists Colony in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

After attending the Stone City Art Colony, De Jong moved to Des Moines with her husband and three children. She was a founding member of the Art Students Workshop in Des Moines and exhibited at the Des Moines Women's Club (1938) and at the Mount Vernon (IA) Artists Exhibit (1938).
