| A portrait painter, Samuel DuBois spent most of his career in Doylestown, Pennsylvania but also painted in the Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre areas. He was the son of Reverend Uriah DuBois and received a degree in Arts in 1830 from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a student of Thomas Sully .
Robert Patterson, Director of the United States Mint, was a close friend of the DuBois family and helped Samuel by hanging his paintings at the Mint.
