ARTIST STATEMENT
Something seen or remembered is the starting point. From there, painting is a process of discovery and arrival. Nuance of tone, expression and the handling of materials are among those elements key to the work. It is important that the finished painting have a visual "lastingness", such that the work continues to resonate over time.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Stephen Dinsmore was awarded the Bemis Foundation (Omaha, NE) Residency Award in 1992. His paintings are in the collections of General Electric Corporation, United Airlines, Honeywell Inc. and the Museum of Nebraska Art (Kearney), among many others.

Dinsmore, a Nebraska-born artist, presents paintings that testify to the vitality of representational art as a means of communicating visual poetry. Many of the paintings have titles of rural areas in the Upper Midwest, but Dinsmore synthesizes his images from several sources.

At times, his paintings border on the abstract, while in other instances they seem to convey a specific sense of place.

Dinsmore states: "Through painting, I attempt to convey an inward response to nature and a reverence for the natural world. In this respect, my paintings are a synthesis of actual, imagined, remembered and felt responses."
