| A native of Ireland, Thomas Dawson was the only miniaturist in Cincinnati for some time after his arrival in 1825. He returned to Europe, traveling in Rome, Florence and Paris, and in 1828 began to advertise for portrait commissions.
In Cincinnati, he boarded with Moses Dawson, editor of the "Ohio Phoenix" newspaper. One of his portraits, a miniature of R.M.W. Taylor, is in the Ohio Historical Society collection.
His birth and death dates are unknown. |
