| | Born in Boston, MA. Doak arrived in California aboard the ship Albatross in 1816. A ship's carpenter by trade, he was hired in 1818 to decorate the altar and reredos at Mission San Juan Bautista. After his baptism as "Felípe Santiago," he married the daughter of Mariano Castro and, by permission of the Spanish authorities, was allowed to settle in Alta California. | Source:
