| Victor DeWilde, (1903-1977)
A painter and etcher born in Tamines, Belgium on April 4, 1903, Victor
DeWilde settled in San Francisco about 1925. After studying at
the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the California
College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, California, he was an
instructor at Commerce Evening High School and worked on the WPA Art
Education Program during the Depression.
He died in Guerneville, California on August 28, 1977.
Memberships included the San Francisco Art Association, California
Watercolor Society, and the California Society of Etchers. He
exhibited work at Oakland Art Gallery, 1936-1940; San Francisco
Art Association 1937, NY World's Fair, 1939; Golden Gate
International Exhibition, 1939; California State Fair, 1940.
His works are in the San Franciso Museum of Modern Art and Sonora High School.
He is referenced in Who's Who in American Art 1940-1953 by Peter Falk.
