| Born in New Haven, CT on Jan. 30, 1822. Dougal (né MacDougal) was an engraver in NYC and Washington, DC prior to arriving in San Francisco in November of 1849. He operated a grocery and livery store there for one year and then returned to Washington where he was employed by the Treasury Dept.
