Wim Delvoye (born 1965 in Wervik, West Flanders)

He is a Belgian neo-conceptual artist who is known for his inventive and often shocking projects.  Growing up, Delvoye attended exhibitions with his parents, and his love of drawing eventually led him to art school but soon he began  painting over wallpaper and carpets, coloring in the existing patterns and defying the tendency towards free expression of the art world at the time.

He creates paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations and tattos sedated pigs for his images.  His Cloaca series relates to the human digestive tract and in his Gothic series, he  created objects typically found in construction work and customized them in a Flemish Baroque style of Gothic filigree such as D11 Scale Model 2.0, 2008.  In 1992, Delvoye received international recognition with the presentation of his "Mosaic" at Documenta IX, a symmetrical display of glazed tiles featuring photographs of his own excrement.

After his pig tattoo projects were judged illegal by a court of law in Belgium, the artist moved to China.   After 1990, specialists directed by Delvoye have executed most of his work.

Delvoye's work has been exhibited around the world.
