Alfred Elias was a painter primarily known for his oil and pastel landscapes with cattle, sheep, dogs, for equestrian scenes, and for genre paintings. Elias was born in Hayes, parish of Kent, which is in the London Borough of Bromley, London, England. He studied at Hatherley’s Academy in London, and later went on to Paris where he continued his work under the guidance of the celebrated portrait painter and teacher Léon Bonnat (French, 1833-1922) and in the studio of E.
